November 10th, 2025
Help Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum Raise The Roof
This Giving Tuesday we have a special goal:
We need your help to raise $60,000 towards replacing the museum roof. This is a BIG and expensive project (~$300,000), but critical for us to continue to bring the wonder of our museum to you and $60,000 is a great start.
More details about the roof project below.
Double Your Impact, Double Your Donation!
This year Giving Tuesday is on Dec 2nd. You can make your donation any time between now and then.
Double Bonus! If you donate between now and December 2nd your donation will be doubled (up to a total of $30,000).
Extra Bonus! If you wait until the 2nd to make your donation the Museum will be eligible for additional gifts.
So, you can either mark your calendar and donate on the 2nd or go to the Giving Tuesday site and donate today. Either way, we appreciate your support!
Where Does The Money Go?
In addition to the roof replacement, your donations also contribute to:

Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum Roof Project

The building that currently houses Mt. Shasta Sisson Museum was built in 1910 by the California Department of Fish and Game (now the Department of Fish and Wildlife – CDFW) as part of their fish hatchery. In 1979 the building was leased to the museum. It took 4 years (1979 – 1983) to create the museum that you see today. The museum is responsible for maintenance of the building which includes replacement of the roof.
Please Note: The museum is NOT associated with CDFW, nor does it get any government funding.
Construction materials for the project include, but are not limited to:
- Select Rafter Replacement/Reinforcement
- New Plywood/Sheathing
- Waterproof Underlayment
- Metal Roofing
- Flashing
- Insulation
Some of the cost considerations include:
- Design and Planning Approval Fees
- Existing Roof Removal
- Disposal of Old Roof Material
- New Materials
- Prevailing Wages
- Reconstruction/Preservation of Historic Eaves
With your help, we are hoping to secure funding, get design approval and complete construction some time in 2028.
